VMware Compatibility Matrix

In last post we looked at VMware Product Interoperability matrix where the focus was to obtain and verify supportability between various VMware Products and their interactions. In this post we will look at VMware Compatibility matrix which covers supportability of VMware Products with the eco-system around them like Supported Servers , Storage , Host OS , Guest OS among many. VMware Products are tested for compatibility with a variety of major guest operating systems running in virtual machines. Additionally, VMware Products are also tested for compatibility with currently shipping platforms from the major server manufacturers in pre-release testing. VMware goal is to support a variety of storage and network adapters used as standard options for these platforms as they come to market. Again , it is very critical to verify and ensure we run supported version of the ecosystem as well. One of the most basic thing in any engagement that is commonly over-looked is to lookup in VMware Product Interoperability matrixes guide. VMware has one of the most well documented and frequently updated Product compatibility matrix which is highly interactive as well. There are two different matrixes from VMware VMware Product Interoperability Matrix VMware Compatibility Matrix VMware Product Interoperability Matrix VMware Product interoperability Matrix helps you obtain and verify information pertaining to interoperability of VMware products with each other in an infrastructure. This also ensures that Customers are running VMware supported versions of products that can interact with each other. You can verify one of the three in VMware Product Interoperability Matrix Solution Interoperability – Check interoperability between various VMware products Solution-Database Interoperability – Check supported databases for your VMware Product Solution Upgrade Path – Check the supported upgrade path for your VMware Product.
